What are the causes of brake drum overheating?
The main causes of overheating in a car's brake drum are:
1. Inconsistent clearance between the left and right brake drums and brake pads;
2. Inconsistent tire pressure on the left and right tires;
3. Blockage in the left and right brake lines, resulting in different hydraulic or air pressures on both sides;
4. Broken or too soft brake shoe return spring;
5. Slow return of the slave cylinder piston;
6. Slow return of brake fluid (for hydraulic brakes);
7. Non-return of the brake camshaft (for air brakes);
8. Corrosion on the support pin;
9. Out-of-round brake drum;
10. Overtightening of the wheel hub bearing;
11. Insufficient or excessive gear oil, or too low a viscosity.
[Tips] Please drive in clear areas, avoid sudden and frequent braking, and fill with the specified type of gear oil, paying careful attention to the fill amount. Bearing clearance needs to be adjusted at a service station.
Solution: Do not pour water on the brake drum to cool it down. Sudden cooling of the brake drum will cause uneven contraction, which can easily cause cracks. When the brake drum temperature drops, drive the vehicle slowly to a service station for inspection.
